El Papaturro Restaurant brings a taste of El Salvador to the duke city, and one of the best ways to get an introduction to the country’s flavors is to order the AWARD WINNING Platillo Feliz, or “ Happy Plate.” The meal has a little bit of everything: one pupusa, one pastel, one empanada, fried yucca, one fried plantain, and cabbage sauce.
“We came up with the Platillo Feliz as a way for customers to be introduced to our various appetizers and common pleasantries of our country, El Salvador,” says co-owner Patricia Martinez. “ This is a plate that can satisfy any customer, including vegetarians, due to our use of corn flour and vegetables.”
The pupusa, one of the establishment’s staples, is a corn tortilla stuffed with various ingredients, including cheese, beans, pork or spinach, to name a few.
“One of the most redeeming qualities in the Platillo Feliz is its variety, but what really makes it stand out is its flavor, since it's not often you find this type of Salvadoran food anywhere in Albuquerque,” says Martinez.
Martinez helps run the family business, which opened in 2016, along with her husband Noe and two older sons, Andy and Irvin. Based on customer reception, it seems that the Platillo Feliz lives up to its name.
“We would recommend anybody who hasn't tried our plate to give it a try because it is a full plate, and we can guarantee that once you try it, you will be happy and satisfied,” Martinez says.
